Just like the key of gratitude, kindness is another completely free element of a successful/happy/confident life.
There are countless ways to demonstrate kindness in our lives:
- We can reduce our carbon footprint and leave the world in good shape for the generations to follow.
- We can be the voice for animals; for those who cannot speak. We can help change laws, protect and care for the animals with whom we share our planet. Reporting abuse, making a donation to an animal rescue agency or even fostering or adopting a pet is a wonderful way to demonstrate kindness to these incredible creatures.
- We can understand that our parents aren’t perfect and probably did the best that they could. We can try to treat our brothers and sisters with kindness and respect; especially as we get older.
- If you see someone struggling, or looking lost or unsure, we can show them kindness. We can take the time to check in with them to see if they may need some help.
Kindness starts with you
You can start by respecting, appreciating and loving who you are. Instead of referring to yourself as stupid or an idiot (even in self-deprecating jest), you can choose to speak gently to yourself.
Think about it.
If you fail at something or if you don’t go to the gym/eat healthfully/say something thoughtless, do you simply regroup and promise to do better? Or do you chastise yourself and feel ashamed for not doing your best?
Being kind means respecting yourself and treating yourself with compassion and care.
It’s our choice
Living a life with kindness means choosing to see the beauty and happiness all around us, and not focus on the negativity in our society.
